Terms of service
Opyt is free. The software is
MIT-licensed
and governed by that license; these terms cover the hosted services — the hosted connector
at mcp.useopyt.com, the sharing service at api.useopyt.com, and
this website. Using them means you agree to what follows.

The service
Opyt builds a private knowledge base from sources you choose — bookmarks, follows, subscriptions, papers, pages — and serves it to your AI client over MCP. The hosted services are provided free of charge: Opyt accepts no payments, sells no subscriptions, and runs no ads. To use them you must be at least 13 years old and able to agree to these terms.
The one cost that can become yours is model access. Indexing your content runs through OpenRouter; Opyt can cover that access to start with, but when covered access is unavailable or used up, Opyt helps you authorize your own OpenRouter account, and indexing then runs on credits you buy from OpenRouter directly. That billing relationship is between you and OpenRouter, under OpenRouter's terms — Opyt never handles the payment, sets the prices, or takes a cut, and you can see and cap that spending in your OpenRouter account.
Because it is free, it also comes with a free service's honesty: Opyt may change, limit, suspend, or discontinue the hosted services, or any part of them, at any time. If a hosted service winds down, reasonable effort will be made to give notice so you can export what is yours — and a local install of the software is always available regardless.
Your content
Everything you import into Opyt remains yours. You grant Opyt only the limited license needed to run the service you asked for: to store your knowledge base, process it for indexing (sorting, extracting, embedding), serve it back to you, and — only if you share it — serve it to the readers you invited, until you take it back. Opyt claims no other rights, does not sell your content, does not mine it across users, and does not use it to train models.
You are responsible for the sources you connect: for having the right to access and import that content, and for complying with the terms of the platforms it comes from. Source sessions you connect (such as X or Substack) are your accounts, operated at your direction.
Sharing
Sharing a knowledge base publishes a copy to the sharing service, readable by the people whose invitations you created, until you unshare. Accepting an invitation gives you read access to somebody else's knowledge base and gives them nothing of yours. An invitation code works exactly once; do not circulate codes you were sent. Shared content is the sharer's responsibility, and Opyt may remove a shared knowledge base that is abusive, unlawful, or consuming unreasonable resources — that removal is the whole of the abuse response, and it may happen without notice.
Acceptable use
Opyt may suspend or terminate access that violates these terms. You can end the relationship yourself at any time: delete your local install, unshare what you shared, or email hello@useopyt.com to delete your hosted home.
The fine print
The hosted services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Opyt does not warrant that the services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that imported content is accurate or complete; what your AI client does with it is between you and that client.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Opyt and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the services. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the services — which, the services being free, is zero dollars — or, where the law does not allow that limit, the smallest amount it does allow.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If a part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands. If these terms change, the new version is posted here; continuing to use the services after that is acceptance.
